I have been reading the most empowering book – You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero – & a few weeks ago I did a post recapping the first half of the book & wrote about: God, The Universe, Energy & You. Today’s post mainly covers the end of the book which is where I just started feeling so incredibly encouraged & ready to take on my goals. So let’s get into it: Surrendering, The Power of Urgency & Your Daily Mantra.
I’ll share my personal, new & improved daily mantra at the end of this post, but first SURRENDER. What does this mean?? It definitely sounds like a church term, but believe me, there’s something to it. Have you ever wanted something so bad that you continue to chase it, try to force it & nothing happens? It seems like rather than drawing it towards you, you’re pushing it further away. Trust me – I have felt like that A LOT. In the book, Sincero tells us we need to get to a point where we just hand the job over to The Universe.
This doesn’t mean we give up or stop pursuing our goal, it simply means we release our crazy grip and create space for what’s supposed to come. I was just in San Diego & visited my home church The Wave (my brother-in-law is the pastor!) & funny enough he talked on how sometimes we have these dead ends or road blocks come up & rather than letting go & finding a new way, we just continuously try to get through them, tiring ourselves out. But later we learn & realize that it was all for a reason & we weren’t supposed to follow that path because something better was in the works. Sincero is saying the same thing! Just because something isn’t happening for you right now, doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen ever… & if it doesn’t happen it’s because something better is coming for ya!
Say ‘yes’ to life and see how life suddenly starts working for you, rather than against you
We think that we need to try & take charge of the situation (fear based thinking) instead of having faith and gratitude & allowing The Universe to deliver (love based thinking).
THE POWER OF URGENCY
There’s only so much that will happen if you just release your hopes to The Universe. You also have to do something about it! This is where “hell-bent-for-glory action” comes in!
Apparently, there’s a fine line between restlessly chasing after something you want (this is bad) & doing every single thing you can think of to manifest the dream/goal/lifestyle (this is urgency – good). In the book she describes this urgency as doing “everything humanly possible to magnetize it to you, and then surrender to The Universe and be on the lookout for something unexpected to come in…)” I guess it’s a give & take type of balance. You do what you can & then you release your manifestation to The Universe.
Sounds a bit crazy, but apparently it works! So might as well try, ya? J
Your job is to do everything you can to manifest it and have unshakeable faith that the Unvierse is moving it toward you in perfect timing
Okay so if you are anything like me, you have days where you are incredibly motivated & excited to pursue your crazy dream/goals & succeed in your venture! And then… you have days where you just want to give up, are burnt out & don’t see any progress so you just get all down on yourself. Those down days are the days we need a damn good Daily Mantra!
Before reading this book, I had a daily mantra & I half ass read it (almost) every day… but after reading the last bit of this book, I decided I needed a better one. Sincero discusses your mantra in the part of the book where she talks about finances & envisioning yourself already with the money you need to be doing the specific things you want to do. She mentions that by having the finances & well-being to be successfully living your passion, you will also be contributing to society in a more positive manner as you are providing your knowledge to others & (hopefully) donating funds to causes you believe in. This makes for a better world so it’s a win-win.
Too many people think wanting a lot of money is selfish or makes you a bad person. I think it’s all about how you choose to spend that money & your path to getting there. So as I’m reading the book, I was super encouraged to rewrite my mantra & focus on what I would do if I was making the X amount of money I believe I need to create not only the life I want, but also the life I can help others have.
So I took time to meditate & write the mantra below & I high encourage you to do the same!
I left out specific details & placed in some blanks as they are personal details I am not willing to share, but it will give you an idea of how you can write your own!
I am so grateful for this day & am blessed to be living the life I live. I am grateful for my husband & our families, our home & the support we give each other on a daily basis.
I envision myself making $_____ by December 31st. We will always have $__ in our checking account. I believe that the small steps I am taking each day to grow my personal business will pay off big. These increased analytics & successes will provide me with the opportunity to partner with other companies, brands & bloggers to provide valuable advice to my readers.
I am so grateful for this $______ because it allows us to sponsor a child through Compassion International & I would like to graciously start supporting another child in need from my family’s home country of Russia.
This year, I will be well versed & confident in my abilities & passions. I will hold tight to the truth that I am able to live my dream & I thank you God for the opportunity to dream big & be exactly who You created me to be!
Phew that was a little scary & quite empowering! I encourage you to rewrite your mantra & envision more than what you have been!
Lame, vague goals are the best way to live a lame, vague life. If you want to knock it out of the park, you need to know exactly what you’re shooting for.
